VOLUNTEER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ONLINE FOR GKP MEMBERS

The long-term goal of this project is to contribute to the capacity building of GKP members and particularly small NGO members at low cost.

Indeed, the Global Knowledge Partnership gathers non governmental, public and private organisations, whose objective is to promote the access to knowledge and information as tools to ensure sustainable and equitable development.

The diversity of importance, resources and size of GKP members creates a great disproportion of technical means. A number of organisations do not dispose of the resources (financial, material, technical, etc.) necessary to meet their needs for capacity building. They then may request for volunteers to provide them technical assistance. For example, a member may need to translate documents, train the staff on the use of certain software in order to computerize its service or create a website.

As this transfer of knowledge can be operated through online courses, the existence of a team of volunteers capable to provide technical assistance online could be a viable and low cost solution to reinforce the technical capacities of all GKP members.

In 2003, PROTEGE QV in partnership with a Cameroonian NGO, Alternative Santé, had trained a team of volunteers called ‘"the Development Volunteers", who have the skills to help different organizations by training the staff to use Office, internet navigation, translation of documents, preparation of reports, etc…

On the basis of this success, PROTEGE QV proposes to create, within GKP members, a team of volunteers who will be able to provide assistance online to members who need reinforcement of technical capacities. I

PROTEGE QV is presently working on the design of a website for technical assistance online which would demonstrate how sharing knowledge and the construction of partnerships are the two effective pillars of sustainable development
